Track Facts
Shows Steve Prefontaine and Frank Shorter battling it out during the 5,000 meter.
The Race was at Hayward Field during the Restoration Meet.
This meet was crucial in Prefontaines career helping him get over the brutal loss in the 1972 Olympics in Munich and start preparing for the Montreal Olympics in the 1976 Olympics.
Had he not died, Pre could have went on to set the 5,000 meter record with 12:36.2, which was his goal that he set the morning he died.
